HIV Testing Counselor

APICHA’s mission is to combat HIV/AIDS stigma and related discrimination, to prevent the spread of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in A&PI communities, and to provide care and treatment for A&PIs living with HIV/AIDS and their families.
Reports to CTR Project Manager
Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Provides HIV and STD screening in accordance with NYC Public Health Regulations and the agency protocol at the agency and in the field
- Provides phlebotomy services to patients as appropriate (conventional blood draws)
- Facilitates and track referrals for services provided
- Provide risk reduction counseling and education
- Recruit clients
- Meets contractual deliverables and requirements
- Act as an interpreter during HIV or other screenings and risk assessment when needed
- Maintain client-related records and other required documentation according to the protocols and standards of APICHA’s CTR Department
- Develop collaborations and coalitions within A&PI communities to promote HIV testing and agency services.
- Attend all required training sessions and meetings
- Documents services as required and enter data in data base
- Serve as a point-person in his/her respective communities in fulfilling APICHA's mission
- Represent the agency at various venues to promote agency services
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelors degree in human services or equivalent experience in related field is required.
- Completion of NY State Certified HIV testing counselor training preferred. Applicants without certification will be required to obtain certification as soon as possible after hired
- Phlebotomy Certificate preferred. Applicants without certification will be required to obtain certification as soon as possible after hired
- Familiarity of API issues that impacts risk taking behaviors
- Fluency in at least one Asian language is preferred
- High energy with excellent interpersonal-skills
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Reliable, flexible and fast learner
- Ability to work well within the organizational structure
- Ability to carry program supplies to field work
- Ability to travel via public transportation
- Must be available on weekdays and some evenings and weekends
