Peer Educator

The women's project at the Asian Pacific Islander Coalition on HIV/AIDS (APICHA) is looking for female Peer Educator to work with the Asian community in New York City. Peer Educators will receive in-house trainings at APICHA, and will share their knowledge with members of their communities. Prior work experience is not REQUIRED.

 

Activities:

  • Recruit Asian & Pacific Islander women ages 24 and older into various program activities.
  • Attend trainings and workshops on facilitation skills, women's issues, HIV/AIDS, health care access, effective communication, street outreaching, self-defense, as well as other important life skills training.
  • Conduct a small group discussions and workshops for your peer groups on a variety of women's health topics.
  • Perform at least one-outreach excursions per week to Asian & Pacific Islander women living in New York City.
  • Represent APICHA at health fairs and other community events.
  • Commit 10-12 hours a week at $10 an hour plus metro card.

Qualifications:

  • Interested in working with Asian immigrant women in New York City.
  • Be bilingual in English, fluency in any Asian Languages a plus. (Preferably Filipino, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Hindi, Thai and Vietnamese etc.)
  • Asian and Pacific Islander Women strongly recommended.
