Medical Assistant (Full-Time)
APICHA announces an immediate opening for the position of Medical Assistant (Full-Time).
Responsibilities:
- Assists in the clinical care for clinic patients including:
- Phlebotomy
- Vital signs
- Collection and processing of laboratory specimens according to external laboratory specifications
- Gather medical information and report to provider
- EKGs
- Peak flow
- Medication renewals
- Consults with medical providers at the beginning of each session to ensure optimum patient flow
- Executes provider orders.
- Collaborates with members of the health team to ensure high quality medical care.
- Participates in interdisciplinary meetings to help determine policies affecting clinical care.
- Maintains clinical competence through participation in appropriate learning experiences.
- Assists practitioners in the tracking of client referrals for services (e.g., medical specialty, mental health).
- Assists practitioner in the monitoring and maintaining of standards of care.
- Maintains exam room fully stocked with supplies and informs supervisor when inventory is low
- Monitors the expiration of medical and laboratory supplies
- Monitors the temperature of the vaccine and specimen refrigerator and freezer
- Assists in the maintenance of medical and laboratory equipment.
- Cross-covers the reception and registration of clients.
- Verifies tests performed are accurate and reports positive tests results to NYC DOHMH
- Recruits clients as appropriate and assigned.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications:
- Certification in Medical Assisting from an accredited program.
- Possession of a current basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BLS CPR) certificate.
- Ability to with all clients regarding their individual health maintenance needs.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team to meet the objectives of all programs.
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development
- Experience working with people living with HIV/AIDS preferred
- Experience working with Asian and Pacific Islander (API) communities preferred.
- Ability to speak and write an A&PI language is strongly preferred.
- Ability to work with people from diverse background in multi-cultural setting required.
- Knowledge of AIRS and eClinicalWorks software is preferred.
- Able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
