Patient Associate/Billing Clerk (Full-Time, temporary with potential for extension)
Reports to: Clinic Manager
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receives incoming telephone calls, redirects those calls and/or records messages.
- Receives persons presenting to Reception area.
- Schedule patients efficiently, follow up with patients for missed appointments, and check patients in and out of the clinic.
- Collect and enter insurance information in EMR
- Assist with patient flow
- Conduct a Financial Assessment of patients; assign sliding fee scale when indicated
- Obtain pre-authorization to provide medical services to patients who have a non-participating insurance
- Verify patients’ insurance coverage
- Creation and submission of insurance claims
- Ensuring accurate entry of all work into designated electronic health record/​practice management system
- Reading and understanding EOBs
- Resubmit or appeal unpaid claims
- Review and process denials
- Comply with agency policies and procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Perform light bookkeeping, filing, maintenance of an appropriate office environment, and other duties.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Ability to understand or learn quickly all APICHA relevant billing codes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proficiency in common office software (Word, Excel), and ability to enter data accurately.
- Ability to sit in front of computer long hours.
- Ability to take public transportation.
- Being pleasant and personable over the phone as well as in person.
- Ability to work well with staff and patients
- Ability to speak and write at least one Asian language is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team within a hierarchical organizational structure.
- Knowledge of eClinicalWorks software is preferred.
*** Compensation is commensurate with experience
