Women’s Project Peer Educator (Hourly paid position)
The mission of APICHA is to combat AIDS-related discrimination and to support, empower, and enhance the quality of life of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the New York City area – particularly community members living with AIDS and HIV infection – through client services, education, training and technical assistance, community organizing, coalition-building, policy analysis, and research.
This position will be compensated at the rate of $10/hour for an average of 10 – 12 hours per week.
Reports to the Program Manager Women and Youth.
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Recruit Asian & Pacific Islander (A&PI) women ages 24 and older into various program activities.
- Provide HIV prevention information to A&PI women throughout New York.
- Attend training and workshops on HIV confidentiality law, HIV/AIDS, diversity, and other trainings/workshops assigned by staff as deemed necessary.
- Conduct HIV prevention workshops for A&PI women.
- Work closely with other peer educators within the Women’s Project and APICHA.
- Meet with supervisor on regular basis.
- Attend all required meetings.
- Submit all required materials such as reports in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
- High energy with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to reach and recruit program participants from A&PI women’s community.
- Ability and comfort with using public transportation.
- Ability to use basic computer programs such as Word and the Internet.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication.
- Ability to work with diverse populations (i.e. gay, bisexual, transgender, immigrant women, various A&PI ethnicities).
- Reliability, punctuality, and flexibility.
- Availability on evenings and weekends.
- Fluency in at least one A&PI language is a plus.
- Good team player.
