Women’s Project Outreach Specialist (Part-Time Hourly paid position)
The mission of APICHA is to combat AIDS-related discrimination and to support, empower, and enhance the quality of life of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the New York City area – particularly community members living with AIDS and HIV infection – through client services, education, training and technical assistance, community organizing, coalition-building, policy analysis, and research.
This position will be compensated at the rate of $13/hour for an average of 12-15 hours per week.
Reports to: Women and Youth Program Manager
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Recruit Asian & Pacific Islander (A&PI) women ages 24 and older into various program activities.
- Conduct outreach to high risk women in shelters, night clubs, ESL classes, and other sites.
- Provide HIV prevention information to A&PI women throughout New York.
- Conduct HIV prevention workshops for A&PI women in formal and informal settings.
- Work closely with other peer educators and volunteer peer networkers within the Women’s Project and APICHA.
- Help recruit volunteers from target populations (at risk/high risk women)
- Attend all required meetings and trainings.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High energy with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to reach and recruit program participants from target community.
- Ability to use public transportation.
- Ability to use basic computer programs such as Word and the Internet.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication.
- Ability to work with diverse populations (i.e. gay, bisexual, transgender, immigrant women, various A&PI ethnicities).
- Reliability, punctuality, and flexibility.
- Availability on late evenings and weekends.
- Fluency in at least one A&PI language is a plus (Korean and Mandarin preferred).
- Good team player.
