Reports to:  Men’s Health Coordinator

Non-Exempt

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Recruit Asian & Pacific Islander (A&PI) gay identified and non-gay identified Men Who Have Sex with Men (MSM) ages 21+ and their partners regardless of race/ethnicity and HIV serostatus for HIV/STI/Hepatitis C screening;
  • Connect high-risk negative individuals to prevention interventions;
  • Refer clients to needed services as appropriate;
  • Deliver HIV/STI/Hepatitis C prevention messages to high-risk clients through their personal social network and use of social media;
  • Navigate clients into funded services by making appointments and/or escorting clients to agency services when appropriate;
  • Assist with HIV testing events and other health fair coordination;
  • Attend bi-monthly individual peer educator meetings and monthly group peer educator meetings to build team spirit, practice skills, and address training needs;
  • Promote project work as well as agency services at various venues;
  • Work collaboratively with other APICHA staff;
  • Collect all required data as needed;
  • Submit all required documents such as timesheet, data collection form and reports in a timely manner;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Strong socio-cultural identification with project target communities required;
  • Ability to reach and recruit program participants especially gay identified or non-gay identified MSM  from A&PI community;
  • Ability to identify and navigate internet websites where MSM meet their partners and conduct outreach in various high-risk venues including bars/clubs, private sex parties, etc;
  • Ability to use their own personal social media platforms (i.e., Facebook and Twitter) to disseminate HIV prevention messages and promote services;
  • Commitment to reduce HIV/STI/Hepatitis C infection among Asian & Pacific Islander communities;
  • Ability to work comfortably and professionally in places where API MSM with high risk of HIV infection gather (i.e., bathhouses, bars/clubs, parties);
  • Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately on sexual topics;
  • Ability to work with staff and clients of diverse backgrounds;
  • Must be flexible to work nights and weekends;`
  • Ability to use public transportation;
  • Ability to use common office computer software such as Word and the Internet.
