It wouldn’t be a complete AAPI Month if we didn’t reflect on what “AAPI” means in the first place.
If you didn’t know, the term “Asian American” was actually coined as a way for us to unite and to push for political and social reformation together. Taking inspiration from the Civil Rights Movement led by Black activists, in 1968 students of different Asian ethnicities unified under the term “Asian American” and joined the Third World Liberation Front (TWLF), a coalition of ethnic student groups, to fight for more diverse education at San Francisco State University. š¤
That said, our history is intrinsically weaved together, our diasporic identities interconnected through our individual and collective struggles for liberation. Join Project Connect and Project Harmony from Heat Program for our Zine Making Workshop on Sunday, June 23rd, at Prospect Park as we collage our stories and the stories of those who
came before us.
ā° When: Sunday, June 23 from 3PM-6PM
š Where: Prospect Park (Meet @ Sled Hill)
We will be supplying zine materials, snackies, and letter writing supplies. āā
